Internal Mood Board Creator

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Collov is a virtual interior design platform, where interior designers use mood boards to communicate their concepts with customers in order to turn their feedback into a final design proposal with a 3D rendering.

This project is about designing an internal platform for Collov's in-house interior design team to create mood boards.

MY ROLE

As the sole designer, I heavily participated in every step of the product development process, from concept to launch.

TIMELINE

Phase One: Oct. 2020-Dec. 2020

Phase Two: Feb. 2021-Apr. 2021

DEFINE THE PROBLEM

The Interior Designer’s Pain Points

The interior design team had to work across different platforms/tools (Pinterest, Photoshop, Google Doc) to create mood boards, which significantly decreased the work efficiency.

THE DESIGN GOALS

Helping Interior Designers To Improve Productivity

The goal was to design a platform that can help interior designers integrate all tools into one place, where they could search reference photos, source products, and create mood boards in a linear and seamless way.

FEATURE MAPPING

How to prioritize features

I had one sprint session with the interior design team to brainstorm all possible features falling into these four categories: reference image, product sourcing, product image editing, and creating a mood board. Another sprint session was held to discuss feature prioritization.

WHAT I HAVE LEARNT

Final Thoughts & Self-reflection

  1. Good early-stage research is necessary

  2. It’s better to get the engineering team involved as early as possible

  3. Usability test can help you see the design from a different perspective
